Lee, Ji Youn

Pianist and coach Ji Youn Lee is a second-year Adler Fellow at San Francisco Opera, where she serves as music staff for Elektra, Simon Boccanegra, Le nozze di Figaro, and Bohème Out of the Box. Lee recently completed her Master of Music degree in Collaborative Piano at The Juilliard School, having earned a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the New England Conservatory, where she graduated with honors in 2020. While at NEC, she won first place in the Concerto Competition and performed with the New England Conservatory Symphony at Jordan Hall.
Lee has collaborated with orchestras including the Brockton Symphony, the Broad Street Orchestra, and the Hawaii Symphony. She has also received prizes from the Duo Competition at the Music Academy of the West, the Ke’alohi International Piano Competition, and the Jacob Flier International Piano Competition, including first place in the 2023 Duo Competition at the Music Academy of the West and second prizes at the 2022 Ke’alohi International Piano Competition and 2019 Jacob Flier Piano Competition.
A participant in the 2024 Merola Opera Program, Lee played and coached Don Giovanni and the third act of La Bohème for the Schwabacher Summer Concert. Her Merola experience deepened her understanding of vocal collaboration and strengthened her appreciation for opera. She has continued her work in vocal repertoire as a featured performer in Italienisches Liederbuch, presented with fellow Adlers Mary Hoskins and Olivier Zerouali as part of the Schwabacher Recital Series.
Lee’s additional training includes the Music Academy of the West, Orford Musique Festival, Piano Summer at SUNY New Paltz, Bowdoin International Music Festival, Festival e Accademia Dino Ciani, and Busan International Music Festival.
